It was cold and rainy out. So, the WBC headed to Epsteins for some breakfast and Matzoh Ball Soup.

It was a cold and dreary morning. I felt like Matzoh Ball Soup would be perfect. So, this morning, Jeffrey and I paid a visit to Epsteins of Hartsdale.
Whenever I’ve been here, I’ve always noticed the eggs section of the menu, but never had a chance to try it. In the spirit of the WBC, today was going to be the day!
I settled on the Beef Tongue and Eggs and substituted potato pancakes for the fries for a $1 extra. I also ordered a cup of Matzoh Ball Soup.
The Matzo Ball Soup was good. Warm, salty and hits the spot on such a raw day.
I wasn’t entirely sure if I would like beef tongue. I’ve only had it once, on a taco I got from a taco truck in New Haven, CT. I liked it then, but was a bit trepidatious of whether I would like it here.
I did. The slices of tongue were thin and well proportioned in the eggs. Some additional deli mustard helped cut the slight greasiness.
The potato pancakes were fine. Three little lumps of fried grated potatoes served with applesauce. No complaints.
Jeffrey had a triple decker sandwich which consisted of layers of salami, pastrami and corned beef. After inhaling the bread basket and pickles, it proved to be too much so his breakfast became his future dinner.
The czar says: Epsteins seems to be the only kosher deli around the area and they are pretty good. Not entirely a breakfast place, but the eggs section is worth exploring. Especially the deli pancake. I don’t know what that is, but one day I might have to find out.
