Blind Charlie’s is a cheery country cafe located along the main strip of Scotts Corner in Pound Ridge.  Pound Ridge is quaint, and far, which kind of adds to it’s charm.  As I mentioned to Jeff on the way up, once you start seeing more horses than people, you are in Bedford…Pound Ridge is just past that (with really cute street signs to boot!).

Blind Charlie’s closes at 1pm on Sundays, and even as we were finishing up around 12:30, there was still a line almost out the door for tables.  Needless to say, they are busy, and stay that way.

The food is better than diner quality, with the breakfast staples all offered.  One of the specials of the day was Monkey Bread French Toast.  I was intrigued.  However, I was also kind of in the mood for a breakfast sandwich, and there were two offered.  A normal run of the mill one, and then there was the Blind Charlie’s Breakfast Sandwich.  It had two eggs, american cheese, spinach (fresh), tomatoes and lemon aioli, served on a grilled roll.  Torn, I opted for the breakfast sandwich, and hoped that I could get just a slice of the monkey bread french toast as a side (they do offer a slice of french toast or pancake as a side).  I asked, our waiter said yes.  Done!

While we waited, I sipped on my first hot chocolate of the season.  Well made, hot with ample whipped cream and cinnamon sugar sprinkled on top.

The breakfast sandwich was excellent.  It was filling, easy to eat (nothing was sliding out of the sandwich), and the lemon aioili was a nice touch.  I am so glad I got the monkey bread french toast as a side.  It was deliciously sweet and cinnamon-y and served with ample frosting in the form of syrup.  The bread it self was moist and easily pulled apart like a good monkey bread should be.  One slice was enough, and perfect as a dessert.

The czar says: One of the better breakfast’s we’ve had in awhile, despite the stinginess of the fresh fruit offerings (half a grape and 3/4 of a slice of kiwi for Reid).  A main gathering place for the residents of Pound Ridge, and I suspect the neighboring Bedford as well.  It is super busy, so be prepared for a wait.  Definitely bring good company to wait it out with.  There were a couple of larger parties there (6-8 people), so that’s not an issue.  Service wise, they all looked like they were in high school.  Given that, I’d say they were pretty good, just have to be more vocal about coffee refills and the such.  To walk off breakfast, I suggest digging through Antiques & Tools of Business and Kitchen just down the street, to make that trip out really worth it.
