With our wallets still feeling the pinch from our visit to Mint, the WBC decided to once again visit an old favorite: Wobble Cafe. Since we’ve been here numerous times before, we decided to include reviews only of the meals we hadn’t yet tried before: S’mores Pancakes (enjoyed by Reid) and the Vermonster panini (gobbled down by Shelley).

Attendees: :jump_to_Reid:, :jump_to_Shelley:, Jeffrey, Sylvia

Mint

19 Main Street
Tarrytown NY 10591

Don’t be fooled by the name or the red and white striped awning; Mint Premium Foods in Tarrytown is not a candy shop. Instead, it’s a gourmet food shop / restaurant. Since relocating to a larger space on Main Street, its offerings have been expanded. A big chalkboard outside that says “Now serving breakfast and dinner” was all the WBC needed to see to convince us to give Mint’s breakfast a try.

Dong Yi Feng / Good Kitchen

Dong Yi Feng / Good Kitchen

135-29 37th Ave Flushing, NY 11354

Happy year of the dragon, readers. Since half the WBC is of Chinese descent, it’s only appropriate that we have adopted an annual tradition of a dim sum breakfast to mark the Chinese New Year. Apparently, we’ve already sampled the two worthwhile dim sum establishments in Westchester (see Central Seafood from 2010 and Aberdeen from 2011), so this year we headed to Queens. Yes, Queens. Was the dim sum more authentic? Did we see any dragons? And what made Reid so angry? Read on.

Happy New Year, breakfast eaters. It’s 2012, and that means, according to the Mayan calendar and countless subway-station preachers, the world will be coming to an end in a matter of months. So, we better get eating!

The WBC kicked off the last year of the world with brunch at Harper’s in Dobbs Ferry.

Moon River Grill

26 Nov

:a_Top:

Ok, truth be told, Sylvia wasn’t the only WBC attendee at Moon River Grill this morning. In fact, 5 out of the 6 WBC members were in attendance. However, only Sylvia was responsible enough to provide a review. (Well, Jeff wrote something too, but it was only one sentence and the WBC executive board ruled that it wasn’t worth sharing with the public.) You can blame the slackerishness of the rest of the WBC on a variety of things: post-Thanksgiving malaise, colds, school, holiday shopping. Or, good old fashioned laziness. Thanks for representing, Sylvia. Thanks for representing.

Moderne Barn

06 Nov

430 Bedford Road
Armonk, NY 10504
(914) 730-0001 (map)

The WBC was long overdue for a more sophisticated brunch. Enter Moderne Barn in Armonk. Sophisticated? Yes. Affordable? Yes. Leisurely? Yes. Horses? Yes. Wait, what?

And, as with any WBC meal, we all learned something valuable this day. Today’s lesson: a vocal jazz cover of “Under the Bridge” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers is not a good idea, and shouldn’t be played as background music to brunch.

But that aside, we had a great time. How great, you ask? Only one way to find out…

IHOP

23 Oct

:a_Top:

Haute Cuisine IHOP is not. But sometimes you just need something close, fast, cheap…and a little gluttonous in a trashy way.
So, the WBC went to IHOP.
We promise we’ll try to get back to more sophisticated restaurants in the near future.
